Sweetflag Spreadwing - Lestes forcipatus (Rambur, 1842)



Range & Habitat:

Has been recorded at scattered locations throughout the state. Exact distribution uncertain due to confusion with the two races of Common Spreadwing.

Description:

Identification of males is beyond the scope of this site. Females may be identified in hand by close examination of the ovipositor.


Extremely similar to Common Spreadwing, even under a hand lens.



Conservation Status:
State: S2S3 Rare to imperiled in New Jersey
Global: G5 Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
