Crimson-ringed Whiteface - Leucorrhinia glacialis (Hagen, 1890 (S1))

Range & Habitat:

Found locally in the Valley & Ridge and Highlands provinces.



Frequents bogs and boggy type lakes and ponds.

Description:

Mature males show red between the wings and on the base of the abdomen. The similar red form of Belted Whiteface is not normally found in New Jersey. Females have a row of rather narrow spots of red or yellow on S1-S7 and are very difficult to separate from female Belted Whiteface.

State: S1 Critically imperiled in NJ
Global: G5 Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
