Sedge Sprite - Nehalennia irene (Hagen, 1861)

Range & Habitat:

Recorded in north Jersey and several counties on the coastal plain. May be overlooked elsewhere.

Description:

Tiny, with an emerald green dorsal surface to the thorax. The blue tip to the abdomen is broken by two black wedges extending dorsally onto S9.


Compare Sphagnum Sprite and Southern Sprite.

State: S4 Apparently secure in New Jersey
Global: G5 Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
