Fragile Forktail - Ischnura posita (Hagen, 1861)



Range & Habitat:

Found throughout the state.



Typically found in vegetation along the edge of lakes, ponds and marshes, where it can be abundant. Often found together with Eastern Forktail

Description:

A tiny green damsel without a blue tip to the tail and usually with a green or blue exclamation point pattern on the thorax. Females occur several rather cryptic variations. Identification is beyond the scope of this site.


Caution, Skimming Bluet and even Eastern Forktail can occasionally show a similar thoracic pattern.

Global: G5 Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
