Southern Sprite - Nehalennia integricollis (Calvert, 1913)

Occurs throughout the coastal plain.



Usually found at the edges of grassy ponds.

Description:

A tiny iridescent damselfly, males have blue on S9&10, the blue on S9 has two dark basal spots. Females are similar, with the blue of S10 usually restricted to the front half.


Compare to Sedge Sprite and Sphagnum Sprite.



Conservation Status:
State: S2S3 Rare to imperiled in New Jersey
Global: G5 Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
