Golden-winged Skimmer - Libellula auripennis (Burmeister, 1839 (S1S2))

Found locally in the coastal plain, usually farther inland than Needham's Skimmer.

Description:

Very similar to Needham's Skimmer, but duller, with more orange in the wings. The anterior stripe on the thorax is nearly straight. The entire costa vein is pale (inner half dark on Needham's), and the lower rear leg is black (brown in Needham's).

State: S1S2 Imperiled to critically imperiled in New Jersey
Global: G5 Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
