Black Saddlebags - Tramea lacerata (Hagen, 1861)



Range & Habitat:

Found throughout the state. Is migratory, often found in autumn swarms with Common Green Darners and other gliders.



Breeds in small ponds, lakes and reservoirs but can be found almost anywhere, usually in open areas.

Description:

A rather large blackish ode usually seen patrolling, when the large black basal spots on the broad hindwings are obvious overhead.


 

Conservation Status:
State: S4S5B, SZN A secure breeder, also an irruptive vagrant
Global: G5 Secure globally, but possibly rare in parts of its range
